My responsibility as a teacher is to nurture the students love of music and the harp, to encourage curiosity and inspire growth. Lessons are an interactive process of discovery. I believe in creating a positive, supportive environment that allows each student to achieve beyond their goals and to carry the discipline gained from studying music into the rest of their lives.
Our main focus during lessons is to develop a solid technique and relaxed approach to the instrument, building repertoire, developing good practice habits and tapping into the imagination and creativity of each student.
My background and training has been in the Salzedo technique, and this is the method I pass on to my students. I have studied with Alice Chalifoux, Yolanda Kondonassis, Paula Page, Joan Holland and Ann Hobson-Pilot. Each one has been a mentor to me and their influence greatly informs my own teaching.
I am now offering beginning harp lessons in the Suzuki method, ages 4 and up, through the Community Music Program in Tacoma. For more info, click here.
