Catherine Case is a writer, editor and musician with a passion for books and music. With a decades-long career as a classical harpist who has performed with orchestras around the world, Catherine is uniquely attuned to the needs of artists and audiences. Her program notes for symphony orchestras are widely appealing and aim to provide a deeper understanding of the music along with helpful insights that allow listeners to approach each piece with excitement and open ears.
Catherine’s program notes have appeared in print and online for Baltimore Symphony, Boise Baroque Orchestra, Boise Philharmonic, Cincinnati Symphony, and Seattle Symphony. She has also written marketing copy for the Los Angeles Philharmonic and Seattle Symphony.
In 2021, Catherine received a Certificate in Editing from the University of Washington, fulfilling a life-long dream of working with words. She has since merged her love of books and music by copyediting A Harpist’s Guide to Effortless and Organic Playing by renowned harpist Heidi Lehwalder and writing the index for Russian Composers Abroad by Elena Dubinets, published by Indiana University Press. She also enjoys editing and proofreading academic articles, fiction and nonfiction, and web content.
In her other career as a professional harpist, Catherine has held orchestral positions with the São Paulo State Symphony Orchestra (OSESP), Yucatan Symphony, Singapore Symphony, Symphony Tacoma, and Dayton Philharmonic. Recordings include the world premiere of John Luther Adams's In the White Silence and the original soundtrack for A Christmas Story: the Musical!
Catherine serves on the editorial board of the American Harp Journal and holds degrees in harp performance from Oberlin Conservatory and Rice University. Her harp teachers include Alice Chalifoux, Paula Page, Yolanda Kondonassis, and Joan Holland.
